FAQ

Pricing/Gratuity

Tip culture sucks! It’s confusing and stressful for everybody involved, so I’m opting out. My prices are set to ensure that I’m able to keep the lights on and make a livable wage. The price you see on the website is the entirety of what you’ll pay for the session; I do not accept additional gratuity. If you’d like to further support me and my business, consider leaving a Google review or referring a friend!

Accessibility

If you are entering from the parking lot, the path into the building is flat. There is a small lip at the threshold of the treatment room that may pose some difficulty for wheelchair users.

If you are entering from Penn Ave, there is a flight of outdoor stairs to get up to the level of the studio. These can be avoided by circumnavigating the block and heading up the sidewalk on N Fairmount St to the parking lot.

If you would like any additional information or assistance navigating to or from the space, please do not hesitate to request it.

Transportation and Parking

There are two designated parking spots available in the parking lot accessible via N Fairmount St. There is also limited street parking available along Penn Ave.

There is a bike rack on the sidewalk right in front of the building.

The 88 bus stops right at the corner of Penn and N Fairmount St.

First-time Clients

First of all, welcome! Thanks for checking out Lion’s Mane Massage. Please make sure to select an “Initial Session” service when you schedule. You’ll get an intake form in an email before your appointment; please fill that out before you come in. If you don’t or can’t, it’ll just take us a few minutes to do that in-person, so please try to arrive 5-10 minutes early so we don’t have to shorten your massage! If it’s your very first professional massage, don’t worry, we’ll talk through all the details in person before we get you on the table.

Prenatal Clients

I am currently able to offer massage to clients in all stages of pregnancy who are receiving regular prenatal care from a qualified medical professional! We will discuss possible risks to ensure that massage is right for you, but when in doubt please ask your doctor before scheduling a massage. Additionally, please make sure to select a “Prenatal Massage” service to ensure that you receive the correct form and so that I am able to prepare the proper tools and props for your session.

Post-surgical Clients

Typically we need to wait approximately six weeks after surgery – and for clearance from your doctor – to resume massage of any kind around a surgical site. For more minor or localized procedures you may be able to receive a massage on other parts of your body – avoiding the surgical site – before six weeks. Once cleared by your doctor, it can be beneficial to receive massage around a surgical site to improve blood flow, healing, and tissue mobility, and to reduce scar tissue formation. A trained medical massage therapist may be able to work with you sooner than six weeks. Please reach out with any questions about your specific situation.

When Not to Get a Massage

The most common reason not to get a massage is infection! This includes the more obvious communicable examples, such as COVID or the flu, but also non-communicable infections such as an abscess tooth, sinus infection, or a UTI. If you’re taking antibiotics, that’s typically a sign to hold off. Massage can place undue stress on an immune system that’s already working hard, and can even worsen or spread infections.

Other specific medical conditions may also be a reason to avoid or alter a massage session. When in doubt please speak with your doctor before scheduling.

Cancellation Policy

Last-minute cancellations are a part of life sometimes, but they really throw a wrench in the gears. They block availability for other clients looking for a session, and they can prevent me from working and earning a living!

For that reason, cancellations made with less than 24 hours’ notice – including no-show’s – will be charged 50% of the service fee if I am unable to schedule another appointment during that window. Clients who late-cancel or no-show more than twice within six months may be subject to individualized policies. Cancellation requests will be not be considered last-minute if a voicemail is left or an email is sent more than 24 hours before the start of the scheduled appointment, regardless of when I remove it from the schedule.

The most convenient way to manage your appointments and early cancellations will usually be through the client portal.

Gift Cards

I am pleased to offer eGift cards through Square! These can be purchased anytime online in custom amounts and with custom designs for different occasions. I do not have a physical gift card option at this point in time.

Scheduling for Friends and Family

The easiest way to schedule for somebody other than yourself will be to call or email and have the following information ready:

  • The person’s first and last name
  • The person’s email and phone number, or your own if the session is a surprise
  • The day and time you’d like to schedule the appointment
  • The appointment type and duration
  • A debit or credit card to save on file

Clients who already have a profile who are attempting to schedule for another client who also already has a profile may be given user access to manage that person’s appointments through the client portal if a relationship can be sufficiently demonstrated.

COVID

At this time I do not have any mask or vaccination policies in place. Please do not schedule an appointment if you know or strongly suspect that you have COVID. I am continuing to maintain regular sanitizing practices in all spaces. I am not currently making during sessions by default, but am more than happy to wear one by request, and clients should feel free to wear their own masks at any time. Please note that I cannot control the masking practices of patrons or staff within the Yoga Hive common spaces.
